Planning to take a bit of a break from fan Pokemon designs over the summer so I decided to introduce the box art legendaries before doing that! Both legendaries are based on indigenous mythological creatures with this one in particular being based on the underwater panther. Its name is the Ojibwe word madaagamin which roughly translates to "treacherous water" or "bad body of water" more literally. Both legendaries also incorporate the scientific name of an animal into it which is well... lynx here so I ended up just adding a letter at the end to make the necessary sound.

Of the two legendaries I think I like how this one turned out quite a bit more just because of how big brained I got with its design. Like the actual underwater panther is described to have a spines down its back and a long tail which lynxes famously don't have so turning that into a stream of water with spiky rocks jutting out of it feels perfectly in line with what Game Freak would do if it made such a monster. Also the underwater panther has horns so I kinda did a weird rock formation with them that makes them look like the big tufted ears of actual lynxes instead of it having both ears and horns at the same time.

As a last point a few sources I read stated that the various indigenous people that consider this critter as part of their culture compare them to a eastern dragon (they are definitely similar) which is why I chose dragon as its secondary type. Originally I was going to go with dark but that little detail just was too tempting to ignore.
