Made for my intro post in the drawesome community on Dreamwidth. The prompt I chose was to make a quick drawing representing your fandom interests...I miiiight have skimmed over the "quick" bit, but I was committed by the time I re-read the post.
Besides, when was I gonna get another excuse to draw a bunch of pan-fandom blorbos in one place?!
I themed everything around Afterlight, a poem written by Megatron in Transformers: Lost Light, since another prompt was to include a favorite quote.
That poem always reminds me of that heartbreaking decision Princess Elise has to make in Sonic 06, to blow out the flame and forget Sonic for the greater good. I’d been wanting to illustrate them with that poem for a while, but wasn’t sure how to frame it until this prompt came up. The theme of loss for the sake of peace ended up running through the rest of the artwork.
Rodimus Prime was only briefly Autobot leader, and suffered from imposter syndrome the entire time as he tried to live up to his predecessor's legacy. He ultimately returns the Matrix, and his title to someone more equipped for the burden of leadership. His moment had passed.
I can't say too much about Princess Emeraude without seriously spoiling Magic Knight Rayearth, but she, like Elise, is another seemingly typical damsel who becomes something far more tragic. She too preserves her world, but must sacrifice something most dear to her.
Not the most cheerful cast, but each character’s story touches on the idea that “you flare, you flicker, you fade”—And that even in that flicker, something meaningful endures :)
(Also, the Autobot glyphs say: Smile! Happiness is free!") Lifted from a Functionist propaganda poster from Lost Light. Yep. I'm a dork. I own that.
