this art is almost a year old but i wanted to repost it so that all of the concepts for all of the RR equines are on here!!
Surprisingly they were not originally inspired by the MLP hippogriffs! I discovered that hippogriffs existed when I was ~13 watching a movie from a series that shall not be named. The ones I saw were quite bird-like, but I wanted to have mine be more horse-like so they have more horse-features than bird ones.
As for their biology; Hippogriffs have a lot of variation between them. Their beaks can be in any shape, as well as their wings and bird feet. Some may also have webbing on their bird feet while others do not. They are one of three equine types in Equus that lay eggs as their main way of having offspring. The egg will spend half of the pregnancy developing inside the carrier and the other half outside being incubated. Hippogriffs lay between 1-3 eggs, with 1 egg being the most common, 2 being a bit more uncommon, and 3 being extremely rare. Generally, 3 eggs isn't seen as a good thing, like with twins in horses. Speaking of twins, occassionally a single egg will hatch out twins but that's also pretty rare. Though not unheard of! They're the only equine in all of Rearing Redwoods that commonly use weapons, which is the bow and arrow. Other equine types almost never use weapons and instead tend to exclusively use elements. Hippogriffs still use elements, but they are very proud of their ability to use bows and like to show it off.
