im like if pierce brown wrote red rising except if it was about lesbians instead
good morning guyssss i've been super contemplative lately and i just want to honestly talk about what i consider my home site and why i think it affected how i think of the internet. shoutout to itsleapinlunatic2u, ribc4ges, doomshrimp, and browniegrill; they are all my friends from Google+ and I hope you all feel heard with this.
for those who don't know; Google+ was a social media hosted by google, where they forced yt accounts to make a g+ account. It was shut down April 2, 2019 after performances weren't expected of it. I watched the site deactivate.
Google+ was my first home on the internet, it was a small and niche corner of the internet while still having easy access as a 13 year old with the entry through YouTube. Despite it being a Google title, the audience I would closely link it to how Sheezy feels right now where most of the people who were Extremely active were around the same age (so those around 19-23 right now would have been the prime age for g+.) and they wore their heart on their sleeve, especially with sharing art. Gift art and community participation was common and petty 12 year old drama always followed.
Google+ was announced to shutdown. Despite the cries of its users, the memories we hold, the moments we had-- it does not mean anything in the face of that monopoly. It was the earliest I could have been taught what the true meaning of the internet is. No matter who you are, how you post, or how you speak; if the corporation doesn't like its numbers it will be thrown away. I've lived my entire life on the internet with that in the back of my head and I saw how old internet was while seeing the growing requirement of social media participation. I spent most of my years from then keeping my friends close, keeping their contacts having multiple ways to message them, but we never were active online again. Sure, we had our accounts but we weren't truly active. Not like Google+.
Sheezy is the successor I think I am looking for in Google+, time will really tell for that, but I'm getting older man... I can't keep hopping from website to website hoping to bring something that won't ever truly come back. Sheezy is different from Google+ but the differences it has are why I am here.
