Lexicon Smash 6/6 // September 2024 // charcoal, marker

This might be my favorite piece out of the set. I’m in a bit of a love-hate relationship with charcoal - it’s messy, and once it’s down, it’s hard to fully erase. But I really like the kind of hazy texture on this one, it’s got a lot of personality. I do think it was wise to darken the skull a bit - the sharpie helps a lot to define the features, but that extra contrast really helps it pop. I’d like to try more with this in the future.

Context:
This week's assignment was to take elements from last weeks Lexicon assignment, and combine them into new forms. I'm dubbing this process Lexicon Smash. There's also a couple where we had to borrow an element from a classmate - I'll get to that soon. Also, we had to tone half of them to a darker color to begin with, so some have strange backgrounds.
