Playing with what Thoon looked like before he killed his colony’s elder brain in a rage, experienced ego-death, and became a demi-god.

Thoon was mostly typical for a mind flayer before the encounter with the elder brain, fairly arrogant and self-aggrandizing. He worked for years in Creative Creed where he had access to a lot of tools and lab equipment for his personal, off the books experiments (studying souls and Quintessence.) He stole, a lot, from the labs out of fear of being questioned. After all, he had a lot to hide when he thought he might be The Adversary.

From the outside he may have seemed like an odd-duck to other illithids, but nothing was concerning enough to raise any red flags. He did most of the grunt labor himself alongside the other engineers’ thralls. It seemed, to him, better to do something himself than risk it in the hands of someone else less-qualified. His growth as a person after leaving the colony helped him to realize that enthrallment was evil in all cases where consent is not involved.

Naturally, his willingness to do his own labor over using thralls made him a bit bulkier than other mind flayers. He was still much thinner than he was many years later, but he did stand out among his peers. The Creative Creed uniform he wore (pictured) became a basis for future stage outfits and eventually his depictions after he ascended to full godhood.
