Here we start properly with the Conodonta also called in some sources the Euconodonta, better known as the Conodonts or True Conodonts to distinguish from the Paraconodonts I drew last time, I introduced the class back then now it's time to discuss them a bit more. Starting off they are divided into two subclass the first, more basal, and smaller of the two is represented here Cavidonti which itself contains two orders; the Proconodontida and the Belodellida.
The Proconodontida are divided into 3 families; the Cordylodontidae, the
Fryxellodontidae, and the Pygodontidae. The Belodellida are similarly sized containing 3 families; the Belodellidae, the Ansellidae, and the Dapsilodontidae. As a group they first emerge in the Furongian stage of the Late Cambrian around 497 million years ago and the last members of the Protoconodontida died out in the end Ordovician
