In this picture we continue the coverage of the jawless fish, specifically the Conodonts. This time we begin the second and larger of the two subclasses, the Conodonti which contain all of the remaining conodonts that we know of. It is divided into several orders the most basal of which are the Protopanderodontida which are depicted here. They are notable for being the first group of conodonts to develop an odd number of jaw elements which would go on to become more complex in later groups. They are unique by the presence in the midline of the jaw a single median symmetrical element
Unfortunately this grouping may well be paraphyletic or polyphyletic in regards to later conodont groups, but this has not been fixed as of the time of writing so as such I'll just treat it as a group and amend the description when stuff actually changes. In addition to two basal genera they are divided into six families; the Acanthodontidae, the Clavohamulidae, the Drepanoistodontidae, the Protopanderodontidae, the Serratognathidae, and the Strachanognathidae. Of which the first three are represented here.
