Here we finally resume my Jawless fish series after a short break period. Hope you all understand I just had some stuff come up, plus I wanted to archive the Art Fight stuff first. Back on topic here we continue with the Conodonts, specifically the last and most derived group of Conodonts the Prioniodontida. This group outside of two basal families that I illustrated lasted time is divided into two orders; the Prioniodinida and the Ozarkodinida. The First of which is where we start with this image. It is further divided into five families; the Bactrognathidae, the Chirognathidae, the Ellisoniidae, the Prioniodinidae, and the Gondolellidae. Of which the first four are represented here. While the first three are rather small, the Prioniodinidae contains around 27 genera.
Given that much like most conodonts these are all known from teeth let's take a brief aside to discuss some more stuff about the animals themselves. Recent research into population dynamics of their fossils indicate that many were short-lived only living for about a month before dying. This may explain how common they are and how fast they evolved.
Left to Right:
Top Row: Bactrognathus, Doliognathus
Second Row: Staurognathus, Chirognathus
Third Row: Erraticodon, Ellisonia
Fourth Row: Foliella, Hadrodontina
Fifth Row: Parafurnishius, Parapachycladina
Bottom Row: Stepanovites, Bryantodus
