Hello there!
Or, should I say: slava!
Because today I started a new series, which I hope to finish. Series of drawings presenting my interpretations of Slavic gods.
We are starting with Perun [perr-oon], the king of Slavic pantheon. His name means "the one who strikes down" - and also sounds similar to Polish word "piorun" which means "lightning" or "thunderbolt". He's a god of justice, order, thunder, lightnings, and protector of humankind.
Perun was present in every Slavic tribe, along with Veles, which makes him one of two chief deities in the pantheon.
The lightning was supposed to form a sigil called "The Sign of Perun" - Slavs used it to defend themselves from strikes from the skies during storms, and also to get a blessing from Perun himself.
