Here are some viruses and their structures!!
Here’s a key for what the structures are (under the virus’ name in that little box)
Pleomorphic viruses (Influenza) don’t have one set shape. They are very flexible and can squish and change shape.
Icosahedral viruses (Adenovirus) usually have 20 triangular faces, and are very stable and pointy. The term naked means that the little dice shape does not have an envelope or membrane around it.
Helical viruses (Rabies) have genetic material wrapped in a spiral shape. Kind of like a tornado. They’re very flexible and wavy.
Filamentous viruses (Ebola) are spaghetti-looking viruses. They have the same kind of DNA placement as Helical viruses, but they’re just super long. They’re very wriggly.
Fuselloviridae viruses (SSV1) have a unique shape. It’s unique to some viruses like SSV1 that infect archaea. They are lemon-shaped and have DNA stored in their center. These little guys do not infect human cells at all because we are eukaryotes and our bodies are WAY too cold!! These guys live in geothermal vents!!
and Complex viruses (Bacteriophage, Smallpox) don’t fit in any of these categories. They can have heads, tails, legs… and they’re generally very silly looking. They are really cool looking though!!!

I hope you enjoyed this yap session as usual, and maybe learned something new about these little guys that are everywhere.
