The Pale Armistice are the expy Black Arms and as their name suggest, are pretty friendly guys who go around helping other planets develop. They originally looked like worms and birds. I think I wanted them to be similar in animal-like appearance to different Black Arms, but the more I fleshed out the story and imagined them, the more I realized they needed to look more or less like Nova and Avow. Their names are references to different ways to describe colors.
I haven't decided on what sort of crystals they're born from, other than something from outer space. Though it does make me wonder if there's a way a Pale Arms can be born from a crystal structure found on "not quite earth."
