while making my "Pi-rates!" artwork, i looked through references for button placements since Sindey prefers to present her masculinely, or at least leaning masculine. (because apparently, blouses are weird like that.) i wanted her coat to have its buttons on the male side.
her younger sister Taniya, on the other hand, would have her buttons on the opposite side instead.
so i had my sketch done, and then my line art nearly done. then last night, when i observed the button placements on the blouse i was wearing... the buttons are on the left side when unbuttoned! and then when i observed the button placements on some males wearing polo blouses... it was the same as in Taniya's blouse in the art (i.e., buttons on the right side when unbuttoned)! i internally panicked since i think i confused left and right on the references.
i mean, it's really confusing! i even thought in our country we had the placements reversed, lol.
and then i saw another person whose female college (university) uniform, for some reason, have the same button placements as male blouses i saw earlier. now that's MORE confusing!! which is actually correct?!?! /nm
and when i checked after i got home, welp, turns out the male ones have buttons on the right when unbuttoned, and females have theirs on the left. okay, so that means that university's female uniforms have male button placements...
now i don't really mind either side, but seriously, i don't get why there's a distinction between male and female blouses on the buttons? i mean, i didn't know that this subtle clothing feature is even gendered until i looked for references! whichever side the buttons are, they still have the purpose of closing the blouse when worn!
...okay i know that kind of contradicts my initial premise of wanting Sindey to look masculine, but for some reason i wanted to be... "accurate"? i think i'm still learning to fully let go of the notion that clothing has gender. but the button thing still baffles me. i never noticed until making the artwork.
i ended up not changing the initial sketches and lines in the "Pi-rates!" artwork. i mean, Taniya wouldn't mind wearing a traditionally masculine blouse like that, and Sindey already looks masculine enough in her own eyes haha
Will join Art Fight this year because of the themes, but I'll take it easy this time since I'm still on my burnout recovery phase ;u;

This time around I won't be doing a hitlist (unless i change my mind), but I will try to revenge everyone who attacks me!
i have this tendency that when i am SO IN THE ZONE doing an artwork, i would spend HOURS STRAIGHT in finishing a major process of the art (e.g., line art, colors, shadows). there are even times that it ends up with me finishing the artwork in that span of time (even if it takes me like days apart to do all processes in that art). hyperfocus is the term, i believe.
usually the things that would stop me or get me to pause doing that is when either my tablet's battery gets so low or when my body gets super duper tired/sleepy or my brain decides to finally notice the need to use the restroom. i know, switching tasks is hard as an autistic.
then couple that with the revenge bedtime procrastination i often have... maybe that or the fact that doing things by myself while everyone else is asleep is so peaceful and freeing.
then BOOM! the night passes and i have significant progress on this one current artwork and then i notice that the sun has already risen /lh
this (autistic) burnout i'm still currently in has probably temporarily weakened some of my art skills, which led me to a stump while i was doing my entry for this June's challenge.
so instead of continuing that, i switched to a new artwork (the "current artwork" above) prompted by a certain song... technically its cover art. it's more of a redraw actually so at least there's not much pressure.
i'm gonna show that artwork when i'm done. probably in my main
profile, but will have an eyestrain + creepy/horror warning regardless. i'm so excited!!

i'm planning to get at least 5 more references into Art Fight this year (regardless if i will be joining or not), which is probably overwhelming BUT i have to do it since i want to really introduce them to the public soon 😅
i'm also planning to join this month's Sheezy challenge since i have a funny idea in my head for this >:] /silly
so there we go, unsure what to do in the few days as i await my thesis to be finally done haha
(nope, not really asking for advice or opinions on which to work on first! i'm just gonna go with whatever my brain lets me do after i do other digital organizing things heh /gen)
So yesterday (technically, since the time I'm writing this is already past the day), I discovered that you can make your own feeds here!! It's so cool!! /pos
I can at least easily search for certain artworks from a specific media or even specific characters by clicking on the feeds!! Also a way for me to see fanart of a game or show I like, such as Miscrits (and especially Miscrits)!
(through this i discovered that there's not any uploaded Godot (Ace Attorney) fanart in Sheezy yet T^T /lh)
