Heya! So as you've probably noticed from my gallery, my several latest art pieces are Miscrit-themed art for Huevember! (I used the original Huevember ruleset/palette for this.)
Unfortunately (and sadly), I have to announce that I won't be able to finish it anymore, because (1) it's December now, and (2) i have a loooong delay on there now that catching up would feel too much.
Regardless, I did enjoy this year's Huevember (as it's my first attempt at doing a month-long challenge)! I got to draw a handful of Miscrits (two of them are my OCs/fan characters), and at the same time I got to practice drawing some creatures and monsters! I'm really happy about it! /vpos
Anyway, for those who weren't able to see my Huevember pieces, you can see them individually through these links! Those with "*" in the beginning are my personal faves.
- (none; wasn't able to find a Miscrit close to this hue. HU(E)HU(E))
- Peepsie
- Rexie
- Critical One in its Light Flue form
- * Terrorcotta
- Pyrubi
- Therin in his Tabbeak form
- * Sol
- Selvyr (eyestrain warning on some parts)
- * Flutterpat
- Fledrion (eyestrain warning on a few parts)
- * Dark Blargles
- * Dark Serpenox
- Tunnelback, but cupcake (spider warning)
- Aloticus
- Echomeleon (eyestrain warning for saturated colors)
- * Meduzap
- Shoctopus
Here's the summary where you can see all of them in one place! I have to spoiler it because it also features those with the spoiler tags as listed above.
Lesson learned: with my current condition (aka fluctuating energy) and amount of responsibilities (mostly in uni), it seems it's not feasible for me to do a month-long challenge that requires me to draw every single day. Not to mention the other setback that was me being sick for around the first half of November (which honestly sucked).
So yeah, something to keep in mind when I get to join another challenge or create my own!
Anyway, uh, thanks for reading, and I hope you have a good timezone!
so i just discovered that the True Tone display setting in my iPad actually puts a yellowish tint on your screen???? i've had that setting ON ever since i bought this tablet! WHAT??????????
that probably explains why in my phone my arts' colors are slightly different, and why my printed stickers and merch have slightly different colors than my digital files... what...
but i guess it's best i've learned it later than never! at least i can get more color accuracy now from this point forward 😅
(also lol i can finally no longer get annoyed by my iPad changing screen brightness every time the lighting around me changes haha)
(to those who don't know: Miscrits is a creature-collecting game similar to Pokémon, except that there's a simpler elemental system and all Miscrits have four stages/evolutions, which can be achieved by simply levelling up!)
apparently Miscrit sprites are made using vector programs like Illustrator, so i tried to do one myself as a sort of... practice and getting a feel of it.
so i tried Affinity Designer! oh MAN it was difficult at first since i'm so used to Procreate, especially with the shape forming and linework! but i eventtually got the hang of it. i still have a long way to go to learn all of Affinity's features, though, so for now i am trying to make a feel of it.
by the way, i am trying to create a redesign of a Miscrit named Ribos! here's my progress so far with the first stage/evolution! :D
as i've stated in the artwork description, i'm going to accept constructive criticism since it's my first time making something with 100% vectors (especially with the highlight and shadow shapes), but do mind that i'm trying to emulate the Miscrits style.
anyway, i'll try to gain more experience with Affinity Designer soon, and i'm excited to see what more i can do with it especially for future Miscrits designs i will make! :D
(also i may be showing my redesign to the Miscrits Reborn server hours later... but i will be treading with caution since some people there are just toxic and/or inappropriate. i feel like i'm among the few people there with proper online etiquette /srs)
and now i try to rest haha it's past 3 AM here now /lh
it's July 28 in my timezone (PHT / GMT +8), which means it's Bren's birthday!!
i forgor to post this in the morning (my brain's been filled with Miscrits earlier if you can see my first journal of the day in my timezone HAHAHA /lh)
this is also special to me since coincidentally, it's my half birthday!! and i love my boi Bren so much waaaaaaahh
sadly i'm unable to make some art of him today since i'm still slowly recovering from burnout, but hey, it's the thought that counts ^^
(i'll make up to you, Bren ;u;)
this is the latest art i made of Bren which i still love .u.
(also i'm not forcing Art Fighters to check this, but Bren also has an Art Fight page (and i'd really appreciate it, but again not forced)!! i don't think i can revenge for the remainder of the season BUT i will definitely get back to you next season!!)
of course this is assuming that the person would explicitly want their art to be critiqued. or, perhaps, when you're analyzing the art style/design of a game, for example. in particular, my case leans more on the latter.
i'm going to admit that i'm in no means a very expert artist. (i'm probably just in the intermediate level?)
i do have some knowledge of some of the art fundamentals. that knowledge isn't on a very expert level either, but probably just enough that i know that how i can use it to execute and improve my artworks.
the question just came up because i do want to put out my critiques for some Miscrits designs (which i have expressed in my previous journal), with more focus on the official Miscrits designs that came out only during the revival in Miscrits Reborn.
(slightly related, i have my own analysis notes of the original Miscrits' designs that i have since last year, and these notes play a major role in my critiques/comments. i'm still going to update those analysis notes!!)
i'm also doing this for myself and other people who might want to make their own Miscrits designs in the future. it can be helpful for other artists in general too, even if it's just for concept art.
i'm just worried that people might come bash me or cancel me just because i put out a well-intentioned critique despite not being an art guru T^T
