Can YOU translate the voynich manuscript? I can
Artfight. And then projects. And then landing a job. It's been some time since I've written a journal here, you can certainly say some decently big things happened!
The elephant in the room is to acknowledge the state of things being bleak in many ways. Yet I feel like I can do so much more now. It sucks that money is the prerequisite to achieve those feelings, but being able to support things financially is a substantial thing. And even aside from that, there's no gain from giving up
And my job? I'm a game master at an escape room! I love it. I feel lucky for sure. I had been job-searching well over a year and I FINALLY got something.... and one that's GOOD, no less. Something I can enjoy without offering up my true passions (namely art and storytelling) to the career system. And my GOD.... I have FUNDS. FUNDS for PROJECTS.
I'm already working on a few. Some indulgent steampunky fixture for my room (this required a trip to the hardware store) and naturally my halloween costume
Ive actually been able to engage in a few new pieces of media too! So some pretty swell news all around ヽ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
woaw it's been a bit since posting a journal here. but i remain active with art ☆
renfaire season is going strong. weekend number four is tomorrow and im looking forward to it With Enthusiasm! im going every weekend this year, a first for me, and ive been having a blast
the 22nd was my birthday, so that was a good time to have my friends watch the movie Flow, which Is Incredible By The Way. i also started working on majorly tending to my garden. cleaning it up, weeding, planting new little guys. its been nice
my usual alchemy related art (Varian And Such) is naturally full steam ahead as usual. candyland art being another focus, though, is still sick and twisted. how did that happen lol
my gamer years are past me i would say, but every so often i play games. and i also felt like writing in the journal here again.
most recently i've played Grunn, a Normal Gardening Game. Loved it. I love puzzle solving, gardens, and weird folkloric things. It being Dutch added to the entertainment since I'm familiar enough with Netherlands Related Things. It's reminiscent of Majora's Mask. Much shorter, of course, but has a similar time loop and schedules to keep in mind as you repeat the days to solve the mysteries. Also it's weird and spooky.
im afraid that's the only single-player game i've played as of late, i wish i could find motivation (and focus) to dedicate more time to a single-player game again :P but that's not to say i haven't enjoyed some really great multiplayer games.
- don't starve together- seemingly an annual fixation for my friends and i... weirdly always happens in winter. i dont think ive played this game outside of the winter season
- armello- old reliable... a critterfolk virtual board game set in a medieval fantasy setting. brutal, mean, and enables you to be a complete jackass. it's impossible for me to get mad at video games so i dont have any qualms with the cruelty of this game
- lethal company- another easy go-to. im not one to play horror games usually, but ive learned co-op horror games are approachable enough for me. and this one comes with inherent comedy
- murky divers- the newest of the multiplayer games. similar to lethal in a lot of ways but takes place underwater. surprisingly not at all that scary to me. i like navigating the submarine and looking at the sonar database lol
Saw this journal meme continued by @mooncritter and wanted to go for it myself during some downtime this afternoon!
- How many usernames have you had? (You don't have to share them!)
I have no earthly idea. As a kid there was plenty of different usernames and such across the incredibly eclectic list of games and sites i would use. the past, like, ~6 years though I've had this one and then like... three others on the side? right now it's just this one and my other username i use for games and a sideblog
- What does your current username mean?
'Tis Irish. Originally the name for my oc (farraige, naturally) but also one I've become connected to lol. It means sea!
- What is the first program you used to make digital art?
Aside from the obligatory MSpaint I believe it was gimp (sad!) very briefly until I got my hands on paint tool sai! That stayed for quite some time
- Where did you first start posting your art?
Ye Olde Deviantart (before it became. Well You Know. bad)
- What is the first piece of media you drew fanart for?
Unfortunately it was probably mickey mouse. Despite the years I spent as a sonic kid i dont even get to say that as my answer smh. It was mickey mouse
- Who was your first self-insert/persona/fursona? What did they mean to you?
Wow, fitting for what the answer above is. As far as I can remember it was a Tiger to fit in with the mickey mouse crew (and also sonic of course). Not much to say, I just really liked Tigers and wanted to be friends with Mickey Mouse really bad
- Who is your current self-insert/persona/fursona? How are they different to your first?
As far as fursona goes- it's just me as a funny animal. Same names (Link/Elliott) and all that. A dragon, a raccoon, a weasel- some mix of two or three of those sometimes. It's just me. Recently though I most often depict myself using my DND self-insert haha, which is still a persona and just me in dnd world. HIS name is vlucht though. He's a weasel-adjacent shifter. A rogue, an artificer, a technicolor jackass with a knack for deception and the lankyness and visage of a weird milo thatch
The most obvious answer to how this is different is it's the most honest and real depiction of myself lol. one example being like... it's actually a boy this time
- What/who inspired you to be an artist?
Probably Disney. Though that continued to nintendo, zelda, and then just finding the endless amount of art found online by independent artists
- What tools are integral to your current workflow? (e.g. Programs, brushes, references.)
Clip Studio Paint is all I use digitally. I have a list of brushes I use in it that I absolutely love but it might be too long for this. I also have an artist's glove which now means going without it feels terrible when drawing digitally LOL. And my huion tablet!
Traditionally I just need a ballpoint pen- I don't really like using anything else to sketch unless a pencil is really needed. When I animate that's a whole other setup but it includes animation paper, a pegboard, and a mechanical pencil (preferably .5 or .7)
The flames here in LA have been, to say the least, a horrible situation. I'm lucky to be safe alongside my friends and immediate family. But it does come with a deeply depressing feeling.
I have wanted to post another journal for a good while now, naturally this being the next entry is a little sad.
It's beeen hard. not just the fires but recent medical issues and mental health. the past... two weeks? three? ive really felt like ive been doing much better... and then this happened. obviously that doesnt negate the past few weeks but god. this sucks lol
i just hope we can recover quickly from this and fix the route causes. thats all i can really hope for.
tomorrow is a new day. my friend is hanging out with me. and my god will i draw. and paint. and create
