my seventh year on art fight - im on team seafoam this year! my profile is here: https://artfight.net/~animal
since the site often gets overloaded the last two weeks before artfight begins, i also have taken the liberty of uploading the refs - and other details/art prompt suggestions - to my website too: https://swiftyshq.neocities.org/art/char/
this is a journal about what i would ideally want to see vis-a-vis the sheezyart recent art feed. i am writing from the perspective of a former deviantart veteran who dispersed around 2020-2021 after dA classic was completely removed from use.
here, i will go site-by-site for a sec to show you what i like and dislike of each.
furaffinity has some awesome awesome awesome inbox control. this makes sense considering it's a long-running site focused on viewing and enjoying other people's works.
i really enjoy the ability to checkbox all of these or some of these and then remove them, as well as the NUKE button which i have used multiple times, especially if the inbox gets TOO full and i cant be bothered to change that.
i like that each piece is showing its thumbnail, name, and author. i would enjoy the option of grouping by author instead of by date submitted, but both options are rather nice depending on how much art has been submitted recently and if it's by multiple people vs just a few very prolific artists.
i wish the checkbox was larger, or that there was a button to remove them individually without auto-refreshing the page. having to click the tiny checkbox makes removing notifs a chore, and i tend to just click through to the pieces i want to see and then nuke everything at once.
i really enjoy that you can view the description of the piece from the notifs here by clicking the little icon at the bottom right of any thumbnail.
i think a 'posted xyz ago' would be nice in addition to all this info here in the mini-description but as it stands it'd be awesome as-is, too.
for one, i did enjoy group deviations and single-artist illustrations being separated. custom groups/tages that the user can assign to their following list might be nice - stuff like 'furry artists' or 'nsfw artists' for section names, for example - but i figure that might take some time.
i dont know that i LOVED the stacking that would occur when an artist/group would submit massive amounts at once... i think it kind of made me just delete the stack itself. i didn't like having to click through to see more like that.
i also didn't actually enjoy the drag-and-drop of the system, even though it allowed for movement into folders and such. it was more annoying than anything. if this was implemented on sheezy, i would HOPE there'd be some sort of grip for that, rather than designating the whole thumbnail section as a draggable. (i used to drag deviations on accident instead of deleting them ALL THE TIME. IT WAS MADNESS.)
i liked pagination of the notifications. being served a few at a time felt nice - and would be nicer if you could select how many to see per-page. i know sheezy already has a per-page type thing for the recent art feed, so i don't think that would be a hard ask.
i also liked that dA had options for viewing art in a text list, like the does. i think toggles for this and the thumbnail view would be really really awesome.
i also would love if there was a way to denote read vs unread art notifs - ie "14 (5 seen, 9 new)" - that would count how many the user 'saw' (ie that were loaded onto the page when the user checked their notifs last, added together across sessions). i know this is dependent on cookies and that people allow the cookies to keep track of that vs them getting cleared automatically by the browser. so that's a taller ask than the other stuff, i think, but still, a "would be nice", just for me.
something that neither fa or da did, though, that i would LOVE to see, would be the ability to comment from the inbox/recent art feed. i would really be happy if i didnt have to click through. maybe it could show the full piece in an iframe or similar when hovered. i dunno. but some way to both see the full art AND comment without breaking the notif-browsing flow would be SO LOVELY AND I WOULD CRY HAPPY TEARS. maybe the comment box would come up via a 'click to comment' hyperlink that'd open up the comment box over everything else for you to type in and send.
anyways thank you for reading my thoughts :D sheezy has always been one of my recent favorites (both the first 'relaunch' and this one!) and i really would love to see more.
artist checkpoint! i want you to go look at your recent pieces right now and think of something nice to say about yourself. what do you think you're getting better at? what is something really specific that you do really well? what parts of your recent art do you want to take with you into your future pieces? are you having fun?
