Vai has lived all their life on the floating, hidden city of Pharaos and was fed propaganda about how the Pharae (Vai’s Race) are all powerful, and that Otacaia is rightfully theirs and they should retake the planet once the Psychokinesis of all Pharae have been restored. They never left Pharaos until after an incident left them exiled, afterward they found themself captured by The Jithran Senate and became whisked into a jail break which involved the stealing of a prototype prison ship and the escape of other criminals, who eventually formed The Jade Owls. After being caught up with these individuals, Vai jealously took up the role of the team's scientist, creating special weapons for their teammates to use on missions.
