lately there’s been something i’ve observed in the art community that kind of interests and confuses me.

it’s this idea of an “inconsistent art style”. i’ve noticed quite a few artists mourn the fact that their art style is “inconsistent” and i don’t really get it. i mean…… i wish my art style was more inconsistent 💀 isn’t “inconsistency” a good thing? it keeps your art from looking homogenous and shows you can do different things?

the only real reason i heard and understood about why this might be an issue is if you’re doing commissions and you want your art to have a consistent look the client expects when they pay you. which yeah i get that. but even among artists that do not take commissions im still unsure about what’s so bad about inconsistency.

for those that genuinely feel that way towards their art, i wanna know more about your thought process cuz the general discussion of art styles kind of interests me !! and of course everyone has different approaches and views to making art so my own thoughts are only my own and it’s worth hearing other perspectives :3
