I think this is the first scroll I ever illuminated for the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). Done in 2023, I did all of the painting and someone else did the calligraphy.
The theme for this event was Roman so I drew my inspiration from a 3rd century AD mosaic for the figures and a scutum for the border. The actual shield artifact I referenced does have offensive symbols, I do not condone the use of nor the behavior shown by people who use this symbol. We punch NotSees around here 👊😃

The SCA is a safe place for everyone. We appreciate history in order to learn from it.
