drawing backgrounds is hard (breaking news everybody) and mine's been stagnating for a while because i'm stuck on a roadblock. basically if you can't do detailed lineart you go the painterly route and rely on tonal variations and abstract brush strokes to create visual interest, and if you struggle with colors you dunk all skillpoints in lineart and create visual interest by drawing little details that way and keeping the colors more simple (and, of course, if you're god tier industry mammoth you can do both at the same time)
and you can also be me and struggle with both really fine detailed linearts and really complex varied color palettes so you gotta find the way to develop a style that has just enough lineart and just enough colors to look pleasing to the eye, and i'm once again starting to feel like it's impossible. and i know, nothing's impossible with enough practice so i'll keep going but i needed to whine so thanks for reading lol
i'm trying to replace my habit of doomscrolling with drawing and i've realized that the biggest barrier for me is the convenience of it, like it's always fun and enjoyable to practice some figure drawing but searching for refs is teeeeedioooouuuussss oh my gooodddd and that's what stops me. if i could just pull up a reference in a couple minutes and get to drawing it would remove that barrier
so i'm compiling a folder of handpicked good looking references for myself, i reckon if i get a few hundreds i'll be all set for a while. so where do you get your references? i'm looking at pinterest and have found a couple of reference makers on deviantart but i want more
hey yall, so here's a thing, i have some excluded tags on here but it clearly doesn't work for the body of the journals, uh, if that makes sense. if the word appears in text it still shows up for me, i'm wondering if there's a way to mute words from text posts too, not just tags? couldn't find it in settings myself
well, sheezy got sweeped by my country's censorship and i wasn't able to log in consistently for the lack of good free vpn, but i think i finally solved that problem so i'll be able to be around more often again - at least as a viewer, there's still stuff that's preventing me from drawing consistently, but maybe i'll talk about it later (maybe not)
either way, missed yall, it's good to have access to an artist-friendly platform once more
anyone's watching apothecary diaries? lahan's about to appear in the next episode or the one after that and i'm so hyped to finally see my favorite boy
