Painted this when the gen7 games were still not out yet. I wanted to do a more realistic take on its design, and even wrote one of those documentary style species blurbs for it:

~

Lunala is a great example of island gigantism. This huge bat pokemon has evolved into its impressive proportions due to the increased size of its natural prey in the Alola region where it is said to live. Using the bioluminescence in its wings Lunala lures unsuspecting nocturnal insect pokemon out of their hiding spots and can be seen gracefully picking the bugs from mid-air. Even Vikavolt - a pokemon known to be dangerous even to humans - is a mere snack to the mighty bat.

Lunala is a very reclusive pokemon, and it has been observed flying only during the night. If it suspects it is being watched, Lunala disguises its dark wings as a starry night sky. In rare cases where it has been startled by something, the pokemon's entire body becomes lit in bright light in order to disorient the ambusher.
