So, when it's revealed in the movie that Fly turned into a Californian Flyfish, it's evident to assume that he's supposed to be a California flying fish. But Fly as a fish does not look anything like these majestic winged sea creatures in the slightest. In fact, he looks more like Rayman if he had scales, fins & a hat.

Let's just say that a Californian Flyfish, which is pretty much hard to tell apart from the real kind of fish due to its similar name, is a fictional species created solely for the film.

Now, it is important to note that it doesn't make the idea of Fly being an actual FLYING fish any less cooler!
