I've taken a peek into dark romance discourse, and I am rolling my eyes SO hard at the argument 'I'm AlLoWeD To HaTe ThInGs.' Yes, you have full right to dislike something. But that does not give you the excuse to make a video calling dark romance 'conservative propoganda' (yes, someone actually made a video calling it that), or the right to treat women who like their fiction a little freaky like naive children who don't know what they're doing. Women have been stigmatized for liking unpopular fiction for years. Even if a woman had a crush on a more heroic fictional character. In either the 1960s or 1970s, an alleged psychologist tried to say that women with crushes on Batman were mentally ill. Back to the people saying they can criticize, you can totally rant in a quick social media post or privately with a friend who agrees, but people were commenting on the 'romantasy is...conservative propoganda' video with crap like 'I get my friends like a bit of self-indulgence sometimes, but I need at least some quality in my books!' Good for you for not liking the popular thing, you want a medal?
