Welcome to the first ever edition of.... website wednesday!!!
The goal for this weekly blog series is to showcase a website I really like, whether it be aesthetically, content-wise, etc.
today's featured website is christinee!!!

This site not only makes excellent use of colour by colour-blocking different sections so they're easy to differentiate, it also makes great use the background blur feature!
as a massive spongebob fan I can't say I wasn't biased in choosing this site (it's like.. the 3rd spongebob themed site i follow 0_o) but can you blame me when it's simply so adorable!?
but what about the other pages? I hear you ask
well, christine doesn't skimp out on making those interesting to look at either!
about
although kinda broken... the about page has an endearing old-school MAC OS aesthetic with a super cute tiled kitty background.
I especially resonate with their sentiment i am mostly just drifting through life figuring out how to be human
as someone who's recently just entered the adult world

graphics

If you need blinkies, this is the place to look!
It's a standard graphics page but still wonderfully decorated with the stylings seen on the homepage :D
The other pages still need a bit of time to get finished but I can't diss them too much on this considering all the work I still need to do on my site XD
I hope you enjoyed this episode of website wednesday and I hope to see you again next week (if i keep on schedule)
SOOO you might have noticed an absence in my presence on this site and although I wish I could blame it all on my hellish time existing right now, part of it was also that I've just been pre-occupied with other work that takes priority (boring adult stuff, except not rlly cuz making plushies is quite fun). I've really just been a constant on and off of working and like.. dying... so let's just get into the update!
SO first thing that went wrong.... my foot went OUCHIE I twisted it REALLY BAD (tore ligaments n shit) and it made me unable to walk for about 2 days, with difficulty walking on it for super long ever since. My dad says it should clear up after like... 6 weeks. That was the first thing, then the therapy session happened
Some of you (probably like 3) might have seen a now deleted blog post on my alt account talking about some mental health struggles I've been having and how I was hoping therapy would atleast help clear things up for me... what I instead got was my therapist being COMPLETELY out of character in the 5 years I've been with her, dismissing me entirely and making me feel like a freak monster major let down for me for sure.
Then all my mail orders got returned and I had to get the phone numbers of everyone I've had order from me in the past like 2 months (which isn't that many but it's still super tedious). In response though I finally made a spreadsheet with all the orders I've had in the past uhhh 2 1/2 years (which is about 130 something... thought it was more lmao)
This week my oldest cat Ginger had to be put down cuz her health has been declining for months now. And that's really messed me up too, trying to get a normal routine back but the sadness is always there before I close my eyes and sleep
Yeah just... not good overall. This and my big work load I've been having have been eating up my time like crazy!!! I was supposed to have march off but commissions keep coming in rahhh. I really wanna get back to posting here but I'm quite swamped! I also have a current challenge to draw (and post) tomoko every day so you can imagine that's like, a 5th of my day gone. I've also just been sleeping cuz grief is a bitch. But as I said to my friend, I ALWAYS BOUNCE BACK.
Expect more... at some point... idk when lul

I wanted to play with divs on journal entries after messing around on my journal about ocd (a bit of a strange place to get the idea but whatev)
if nothing cool is happening ignore this entire journal it means I'm working on it RN !!!!!!!! I just wanted to see what I could do with these funny fixed divs, I hope i don't break anything (if I do i usually just inspect element and delete the overlay XD)
I mostly found out abt this cuz I was coding my graphics page today and I wanted to try and get the crt scanline effect I see on other people's sites... and i did! I will say though, if you use a non-transparent image, half of the buttons on the page stop working regardless of the "pointer-events" thing and I don't know enough about coding to tell you why XD

I think a key difference people don't acknowledge between gallery sites and social medias, is active vs passive engagement.
Generally speaking, liking a post or commenting on it on a gallery site is a lot more active of a decision on the viewer's part (like on sheezy where you have to click on a post to like it or commento n it) where on social medias like instagram or twitter, it's kind of a mindless thing you do to any post you somewhat like.
This is why i personally find issue when people complain about low engagement on here or furaffinity or deviantart, it's not equivalent at all to social medias.
I think this mostly is caused by social medias making art into "content" and seeing engagement as the only way you can grow, rather than organically or by forming communities with your fellow artists. We've lost a lot of that peer to peer support i think.
100 people liking your art is a LOT. If even 10% of that commissioned you, that's 10 commissions from a single artwork! As someone with a larger insta profile, it can be easy for these numbers to seem so small because people on instagram are not there to look at *your* art or *your* content. A view could be a single person who immediately scrolls past, it means nothing.
Another thing to consider is sites like deviantart and furaffinity have been around for a really long time, and have become a place where people go *to* commission people, sheezy, artfol, side7 and all the rest are still in their infancy so I don't think major profits should be expected.
I get it though, you want more engagement because in this economy you need to know if it's even worth your time to post somewhere, you can't just risk "waiting it out" if it's taking away from time you could be using to get paid that week. I just don't think we should be expecting the same turnaround on engagement between these two online ecosystems. You wouldn't expect pouring rain in a mostly temperate climate, it's not impossible but it's not guaranteed either.
I'm sorry if this barely coherent this was mostly just my train of thought but it's something I've been thinking about a lot.
