Jem here is the protagonist of one of my big projects, Main Character Syndrome. He's a real jock type, all brawns with little brains, and very very gay (well, pan specifically). If he sees a pretty person? He's out for the count, brain cells are in the negatives. Even if he doesn't see a pretty person, he's still really stupid.

Like 'once ate a taco filled with poison ivy on a dare, therefore discovering he's immune to poison and learning nothing' kind of stupid. Makes terrible decisions like he's in a race to the bottom. Man, I love Jem.

Now here's the issue: The plot of Main Character Syndrome involves him getting trapped in a mystery-romance game with an emphasis on the Mystery. He cannot go home without solving that mystery. He will most likely die if he does not solve that mystery.

Jem is not even aware there is a mystery to solve. He has not played this game, nor has he even heard of it. The fact he accidentally completed the blood ritual necessary to end up in his position is nothing short of a miracle.

Things go very wrong almost immediately.
