The idea of the unknown and what could be hiding within it is something that has always fascinated me since I was a kid. Especially when it came to the idea of cryptids or mythological creatures. The process or discovery of animals and plants we couldn't ever fathom to have existed has always been something that has captivated me. Essentially that question of "if this is out there, what else could be?", I think that's why it's part of the unique foundations that make up my interests in general, but also a key factor at play in my artistic interests especially when it comes to creating fantasy animals with a dark whimsical flare.

For this piece, I wanted to incorporate an animal I've always loved and had a fascination for, and while there are many that I could choose from I decided that a hummingbird would fit this piece especially well when the creature I decided to meld it with was a mythological mimic. The idea of mimics has always been something that has terrified me since I was a child, the idea that something could shape shift so seamlessly was just terrifying to me. So I wanted to create a creature that not only embodied that terrifying aspect of mimics but also blended with something that was so innocently beautiful such as a hummingbird. Thus, this beautiful creation came to life!
