Was hoping to have the whole page finished this year, but hey, it's ready to take to the lightbox and start inking! That's something!

Sketchy WIP comic. Mostly grey pencil and black digital paint, with blue guides and sketch lines faintly visible.

Panel 1: Viola, her eyes and hands surrounded by a fiery glow, stands ready to face the taller man. One hand stretches behind her as a warning to the shorter guy, who stares up at it from the ground.
Panel 2: Reverse shot of the taller man continuing his charge, ready to thrust with his sword.
Panel 3: Close-up of Viola's hand grabbing the sword, bending it.
Panel 4: Cutaway shot of the sword (with pitiful attempts at motion lines) having been tossed over a bank into the lake.
Panel 5: Tall guy's reaction, looking stunned and stupefied but still reaching for a knife on his belt.
Panel 6: Viola grabs him by the wrist with one hand with no magic, looking severely unimpressed. She still points a fiery finger at the shorter guy off-panel.
Panel 7 (final): Cutaway shot paralleling Panel 4. this time it's the tall guy (and, separately, his knife) flying into the lake.

Plan A was a traditional pencils over a print of a digital layout sketch, but I ended up scanning it to do the last 20% or so digitally. I'm not going to erase and re-draw half the page just to be a purist when all I need are some minor tweaks. For future pages, I think I'll probably do all the "pencils" digitally.

I'll still print it out and take it to the lightbox to do traditional inks, though. I like having a real, physical piece of art as part of the process. Then I'll scan that back in and color it digitally.
