long time member here noticing a lot of folks coming in from diggon's video on the indie web, so im assuming at least a few people will see this journal post

so welcome! this is sheezyart, if you watched the video you probably know its a deviantart revival site and we're big on customization here. there's a few things you might wanna know that i as a user found/find important, and my opinions on these topics

There Is No Algorithm!

self explanatory! theres no algorithm to this site, not in the way the Only Five Websites serve you content. there's the trending feed, which measures how new an upload is vs its likes/comments/engagement, and the spotlights on the corners. otherwise you'll find a lot of stuff through the newest uploads feed, or custom feeds!
feeds are a good way of self-curating your experience on sheezy, and are a great way to find new artists and engage in conversations with each other! you can set them up to have all sorts of parameters, for example i have a feed that shows me journals with the tags "discussion" and "discussionwelcome" so i can yap about things with strangers, lmao

also, i've noticed people who tend to comment a lot and engage with other peoples posts get a lot of engagement in return, so my next point is:

Talk To Each Other!

people love to comment here! commenting is welcome! there is no such thing as a "reply guy" on sheezy, and there's no hostility towards yapping. just be courteous and remember that other people are going to see what you say!
this also applies to your journals. i cannot stress this enough, what you say on your journals will show up on the front page for a time, and Other People Will See It. it will not be buried. if you only intend for a few people to see it and/or reply to it, i would not recc posting it on sheezy.

Tagging

sheezy is not instagram, it is not facebook, it is not twitter. it's small. the community and the people that run sheezy care about the content being put on it. get familiar with the content tagging system, and don't abuse it! there's a handy guide of what is and isn't allowed on sheezy, and how to tag things as certain ratings, etc.
(also, because i brace for the worst, i'm expecting at least one shitfit about the things banned on sheezy incoming on this user wave. idgaf. there are other websites that operate on free speech absolutism, and look at where that got twitter)
(but i digress. tagging.) tag things EXCESSIVELY. not just sensitive content, but details! the more tags the better! they help your uploads show up in searches. it's how people find things! just make sure your tags are relevant to your upload- don't tag your sonic the hedgehog fanart as #warriorcats unless it's also got warrior cats in it. generally just use your brain

Speaking of Censorship...

Youre allowed to swear here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can swear uncensored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can say all sorts of words uncensored as long as theyre not slurs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there is nobody and nothing that will ban you for saying kill or die or shit or fuck or piss or hell or ass or suicide or rape
the only limit is your comfort with saying these things. please do not censor these words, if you are really that uncomfortable with typing them then i would suggest not discussing the topics.
and if you're REALLY uncomfortable with a topic, you can add it to your tag blocklist in the settings. your blocklist is your lifeline if something upsets you, or doesn't upset you, or just plain annoys you. nobody can see that you blocked something or someone. it's allowed. hence why we're so big on tags here!

Other Sites

we <3 other sites on sheezy! share your frequent places, talk about them, add as many links as you want. there's no shadowbanning here, and especially not for links. as a member of the community all i ask is you don't spam them 900 zillion times in everyones comments sections lol. that'll get you banned
a lot of users like neocities hosting, so you'll see a lot of neocities links! there's also nekoweb, strawpage, carrd, and a few others im forgetting

Image Hosting

if you need image hosting for putting images on your profile (or in journals), i really recommend using filegarden. it's free and easy to use <3
an opposite of recommendation: do NOT use discord for these things. discord image links expire, and your pages will be full of dead images within a few weeks. also don't use neocities for that stuff either because its against their tos
theres a few other imagehosts but ive found filegarden to be the most reliable and averse to enshittification
