Drew this a while back to get my mind off worrying about the comic.
Unfinished pencil sketch of Viola, my anthropomorphic lioness OC, reimagined as a mermaid. She wears a simple, sleeveless tunic fastened around the waist by a plain belt with no visible buckle.
Four long, narrow, striped fins emerge from her back. From her hips, emerging from slits in the sides of her tunic, are similar fins, two on each side. The hip fins are much larger and longer, and are translucent.
The magical aura around her claws and glowing eyes takes the form of bubbles, as if she's boiling the water around them.
Her tail is the most unfinished part of the drawing. Its shape is clear, but it is undetailed and covered in construction lines indicating the curvature of its surface. The tail fin is just an overall shape with some curved lines representing where detailed work would eventually go.
Kind of a shame I never finished it. It's actually a lot closer to completion than I thought I remembered. I just never did scrape up the motivation to finish the tail and do the cleanup work. Maybe I'll get back to it someday but I have a whole lot of other things I want to work on first.
You know, like the comic.
As usual, also available on Mastodon. Doesn't have a page in my personal site's gallery, but it is an a blog post from 2018, along with the previous character design sketch I posted here and some other comic-related character design stuff.
