Do you ever get tired or stressed or bored with the project you're working on and say, "Screw it, I'm drawing a mermaid"?

Pencil sketch of a mermaid playing with a creature that has the head and front legs of a cat and the body of a fish. The curve of the mermaid's body and tail and that of the cat's body form a roughly circular composition. some pencil smudges are visible around the characters.

The cat floats just above the mermaid's eye level, resting one paw on her outstretched left hand and using the other to bat playfully at her right hand.

The mermaid has a fin where her ear would be and a pair of fins at her hips. Her face is in profile as she smiles at the cat, and her body gently twists until her tail fin is seen not quite straight-on. Her outfit consists of a band around her chest fastened at the near side to a ring, and a skirt slit clear up the side to make way for her hip fins, fastened at the bottom with a similar ring.
