Currently, the site is undergoing a rebuild which essentially modernizes the codebase.
While that's happening, I wanted to share some of my comments on the planned/upcoming Gallery Folders. As for Groups, I don't have any comments on it since I wasn't around old dA when it was good. Nonetheless, I'm still excited for how they'll look and how they'll function on Sheezy!
Gallery Folders
The main gist of it is that when Gallery Folders are implemented, you will be able to sort your artworks in folders instead of them being all sprawled out on your profile like a sad, messy room. Subfolders can also be made within these folders, and they can go as deep as you want. They are a big gallery organization tool. I do have some thoughts that might make folders better:
Multiple Artworks in One Folder
I know this sounds crazy on paper, but hear me out. What if there was artwork or literatures.. that belong in more than one folder? Some use cases I can think of that justifies this are:
- Folders for specific art types (digital, traditional, 3D) and amount of character shown (fullbody, halfbody, bust). One image could fit in two folders (a traditional, halfbody drawing of a character). Another example is the already mentioned art type, and the subject (character, landscape, object)
- Folders of the character drawn. Example would be Confrontation, with Lilith and Martha included. It would be irritating if I was forced to pick one folder or the other, instead of putting Confrontation in both Lilith and Martha's folders.
Displaying Folders That The Artwork is In On The Artwork's Page
Kinda ties into the above point. Another section on the artwork page that shows what folders the artwork is in. If an artwork is in the following folders: Digital, Fullbody, and Martha, then the "Folders" section would have these tag-like entries with those folders listed out. Another thing is to basically decide what folders can show in this section or not. E.G you can either have a blacklist system where folders on a blacklist do not show up in that section, or a whitelist system where no folder except for the whitelisted ones can show up in that section. Very useful for if you want a system similar to Toyhouse, where you can attach multiple characters to one image. That image will list out the characters, and also show up in the listed character's gallery.
Folder Descriptions.
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE consider allowing users to add optional descriptions to their folders as a way of describing what they're for or in the case of character related folders, a short description of the focus character, please and thank you.

Yeah, just my thoughts on the planned gallery folders. Hopefully the team sees this journal and considered some of the stuff I said here! Also, thanks for reading!
Edit 1: ry responded to this journal which is pretty cool. He also pointed out that the Gallery Folders are referred to as Collections officially.
So we're calling folders "Collections".
